Where Young Men find Purpose, Meaning, and Direction

Transformational Living

The Carpenter Shed is a transitional program for young men aged 16 to 20 experiencing mental health and substance use challenges and requiring guidance, support, and mentorship to find their place in the world. Our program is community-based and highly structured, and we aim to help these young men discover their purpose, meaning, and direction in life. Our ultimate goal is to transform them into responsible and purpose-driven men.

The Way Forward

The Shed is where young men, typically between the ages of 16 and 20, come to find freedom from the pain, confusion and the chaos life can bring. The Shed is deeply relational and community-based. It is safe, structured, and filled with opportunities for him to discover his place in the world.

  • For those who are transitioning out of treatment

Following treatment, it can be difficult for a young man to assimilate into the real world and not slip back into old behaviors. At The Carpenter Shed, we ease the transition for our young men and their families by providing the tools to find purpose, meaning, and direction for his life. This extra time allows him to become stronger physically, mentally and spiritually, giving him the tools and the confidence to move forward and achieve in everyday life.

  • For the isolated, disengaged, and detached.

Many young boys have become unmotivated, bored, secluded, and depressed. To the outside world, they appear angry, defensive, and entitled. But what they really are is stuck. These young boys isolate in their bedrooms away from family, disengage from school and friends and detach from anything that gives meaning and purpose. At The Carpenter Shed, we show them how to overcome these barriers and live in the outside world. We show them how to become strong young men who have purpose, meaning, and direction.

  • For the resistant and defiant.

The resistant and defiant present to the world and family that they are angry and lost. These young boys can’t articulate the reasons for their outbursts. They are resistant to rules and consequences. Families have lost their ability to guide and direct their son. They choose chaos over calm, because they don’t have the tools to regulate their emotions. They may appear tough and unwilling, but inside they’re scared, lost and confused. The Carpenter Shed will provide a structured environment that will give the young man the specific tools they will need to help them express and regulate their emotions.

  • For the lost and hurting.

Complex PTSD, developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, or mood disorders are common mental health problems we see in the young men who come to The Carpenter Shed. A variety of life experiences and circumstances can be behind these presenting problems: the pain of divorce, the pain of being bullied, the pain of feeling rejected, and the pain of being misunderstood. While at The Carpenter Shed your son will work with our clinical team and the many coaches and mentors to help change the message that has convinced them of these self-destructive negative thoughts and behaviors.

The Carpenter Shed is where your son can embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. By discovering his purpose, finding direction, and understanding the value of his role as a son, father, brother, future husband, and community member, he will unlock his full potential to make a positive impact on the world.
